Silent: The smog test does not test the silencer. However, we do not recommend that you take the vehicle with you to check if your vehicle`s muffler is broken or has holes due to damage or rust. This can cause the smog technician to have difficulty getting the smog machine to accept your vehicle`s tests. EO stands for Executive Order. This is a number given to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for the emissions upgrade component. The EO number indicates that the power enhancement part is a California emission. JBA understands the importance of combining performance with current mandatory emissions regulations. JBA works closely with C.A.R.B. to obtain e.O. numbers for new vehicles to offer the latest range of emission head products in the industry. We are committed to our customers and the environment. These JBA Performance Exhaust shorty headers are equipped with an exception to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Executive Order (EO).
According to the application manual and the manufacturer`s installation instructions, they are legal for 50 states if they are installed on the corresponding vehicle. On the driver`s side, it wasn`t that easy. We had to unscrew the steering shaft for easy access. It was clear that the installation on the driver`s side would take a little longer than the header on the passenger side. And since our GMC Sierra already had a compressor mounted on the driver`s side, access was a bit narrow, but didn`t make it impossible. Don Lindfors, Director of Exhaust Gas R&D at PerTronix, Inc., said, “It doesn`t surprise me that your installation was easy. We design JBA headers and manufacture them with the right tolerances so that they fit perfectly. ยป What you need to have: Components to improve engine performance, such as the upgrade ECU, turbo units, exhaust manifolds, intake manifolds, and other emissions-related components, can cause problems during smog testing, but if evidence is provided that the upgrade units are legal for use in California (they have an EO number) or OEM parts, they will not fail a vehicle in smog tests in California. We decided to test our results on the test bench with a VP Racing Octanium fuel additive in the tank, new PerTronix spark plug wires and a new homolo exhaust for the JBA Performance Exhaust CARB.
Good news: the PS were on the rise! We removed the intake manifold and plug-in wires to create additional installation space on the driver`s side. We were a little impatient when we ripped off the plug wires, and after 60,000 miles, the old OEM plug-in wires in our hands collapsed. No problem. We ordered a set of new PerTronix plugwires and hit these babies once both headers were fully installed. The first step in creating an efficient and powerful exhaust system is the addition of a set of high-end manifolds. The robust and high-quality stainless steel construction, which significantly improves performance, is synonymous with the JBA design philosophy. We offer a variety of SMOG Legal CAT4Ward Shorty headers and long racing tubes for most car, truck and SUV applications. Once the JBA short circuit strips were tightly tightened and our new PerTronix/JBA connector wires were firm, we moved to the back of the exhaust. As the standard exhaust was simply too quiet for our taste, we opted for JBA`s Performance exhaust system (PN 40-3051), which would replace the exhaust south of the catalytic converter.
Again, the key is to leave the storage catalyst alone and in the storage location to achieve CARB compliance. Will aftermarket headers cause my car`s smog test to fail? JBA Performance Exhaust (PN 1850S-4) short headers screwed without much drama, which says a lot about installing the header. Shorty headers are legal because they do not affect the position or use of factory catalysts. The headers are JBA with a high temperature coating. I think most of us will agree that a white Chevrolet/GMC pickup truck that drives on the highway is not something to be very happy about. The reality is that these microphones are a dozen. Knowing that a white van was almost invisible, we decided to give a little more sex appeal to our GMC Sierra. We started by adding an emissions ProCharger that increased the truck`s power from 260 horsepower and 281 lb-ft to a healthier power of 419 horsepower and 422 lb-ft of torque. And while we`re happy with the new gains, we can`t help but think that the factory exhaust system could be an obstacle.
